Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Up to half the British hauliers claiming compensation against the French for the recent blockade could find their payments capped as prefectures (regions) renege on another element of the fast-track payment terms agreed before Christmas.

Up to 10 prefectures have now refused to pay parts of claims that relate to delays in other prefectures—despite a French government promise that all agreed claims would be net by the main prefecture involved.

The prefecture of Le Mans has already refused £.130 of a £590 claim by Melton Mowbray-based SC European Haulage unless it sees further evidence of the amount involved.

"We've seen responses from about nine or 10 different prefectures, most of which are asking for further detail on that daily rate," says RHA manager of international affairs Mike Freeman. "A fair number of hauliers could be affected50% at least I should think."

Freeman hopes this issue will be resolved at a meeting with the French authorities within the next few weeks.
