Eastern Deputy Traffic Commissioner Brian Horner.
Terence and Valerie Jones, trading as Jones & Jones Transport Services, are setting up an operating centre at Kellys Haulage Depot, next to Moss Terrace, Moorends, Doncaster. They have a licence for six vehicles and two trailers.
Terence Jones told a Thorne public inquiry that the company wanted to develop the derelict site and then transfer the vehicles and trailers currently based at Thorne to Moorends. This would be completed in four to five months, he said.
There were representations from eight residents of Moss Terrace, who complained about possible noise and air pollution and a devaluation of their properties. For the firm, Gary Hodgson said that drivers and other staff had been instructed to keep noise to a minimum. He added that a vast number of people would benefit from the move, as Jones' vehicles would no longer have to go through the centre of Thorne.
Granting the application, Horner said he was extremely annoyed that the residents had not come to the public inquiry. It seemed to him that a lot of public money and the time of many people had been wasted.
In general terms there would be an enhancement of the site which would not affect property values, he concluded.
