Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Lancashire police have hit out at the 'unacceptably high" level of trucks found to be running illegally, following a multi-agency road safety operation in Heysham.

Operation Patrick 2, which involved the police, Vehicle Inspectorate and Customs & Excise, targeted vehicles in the Lancaster and Morecambe area over a 12-hour period, Of the 72 vehicles stopped, 41 were found to be running illegally and 14 were given immediate prohibitions for major braking, steering, or suspension faults.

Lancashire Constabulary's accident prevention officer, Inspector Peter Stas, says a number of drivers showed "a total disregard" for drivers' hours rules.

"It is very disappointing to see that operators and drivers are still prepared to flout the law on drivers hours and continue to use vehicles with dangerous defects," he says. Lancs blitz revealed illegal running and major faults.
