CORAS IOMPAIR EIREANN has recently introduced the first of a batch of 13 new luxury coaches, mounted on Leyland Leopard 36-ft. chassis. The 40-seat bodies are similar to those mounted on 23 Worldmaster chassis already operated by C.I.E., and were designed by David Ogle Associates, Birdshill, Letchworth. The new vehicles have a short (18 ft. 6 in.) wheelbase compared with the 20-ft.-wheelbase Worldmasters, which will allow C.I.E. to employ the coaches on all-Ireland tours. It is stated that the Northern Ireland authorities will not permit the Worldmasters to operate in the province. A big tourist promotional tour, "Ireland comes to Britain" terminated yesterday with a three-day visit to London. One of the new 40-seat coaches was employed on the tour, which commenced on March 9 with a visit to Glasgow; and Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol and Birmingham were included in the itinerary. This year C.I.E. will operate, a fleet of 70 coaches, the greatest number so far in the history of its tours.
