THE apathy of hauliers who failed properly to prepare renewal applications for valuable A licences was criticized by the South Wales Licensing Authority, Mr. Idris Owen, at Wrexham, last week.

Told on behalf of J. Williams and Sons, Mold, who were applying for the continuation of a two-vehicle A licence, with modification, that the applicant had forgotten to ,bring his figures, Mr. Owen said he did not believe such obvious excuses. This was the third time the application had been listed. As long ago as December Mr, Williams was told that certified figures would be required, and was advised to seek legal assistance regarding his proposed normal user, general goods, as required."

Granting a further adjournment, Mr. Owen warned Mr. Williams that if he appeared again without properly certified figures, the renewal would be refuseille

Mr. Owen was deputizing for the North Western Licensing Authority.

1120,000 CHASSIS ORDER FROM HONG KONG THE 50 Daimler double-deck bus 1 chassis which are to he supplied to the Kowloon Motor Bus Co., Hong Kong, will cost £120,000 (The Commercial, Motor, last week). The chassis will be basically similar to 215 others already delivered to Kowloon, but they will have the new glass-fibre front structure, comprising semi-full fronted type radiator shell and grille, front wings and bonnet top and sides.

The chassis will be fitted with fluid flywheel transmission coupled with preselector gearboxes. Braking will be by means of triple servo units. The 16-ft. 4-in, wheelbase chassis are designed to accommodate a double-deck body 7 ft. 6 in. wide, with a drop frame extension at the rear.

HAULIERS MUST PAY £93 RENT

A MORECAMBE haulage company,

K. and L. Transport, Ltd., were last week ordered to pay £93 10s. garage fees to Mrs. Elizabeth Yates, proprietor of West Coast Motors, Morecambe. It was ' stated at Lancaster County Court that two heavy long-distance lorries belonging to K. and L. were garaged by West Coast Motors from January, 1956, until May, 1957, at an agreed rental. of £100 a year. After payment of £50 up to July, 1956, no further rent was paid by the hauliers.

K. and L. were not represented in court.

LONDON FARE FREEZE?

THE Transport Tribunal on Monday concluded the hearing of the British Transport Commission's application for power to raise charges. They were told that if the Commission introduced the new proposed maximum rates it might be possible to stabilize fares in London for three years.

The scheme, said Mr. E. S. Fay, Q.C., would produce a surplus of £4.7rn., or rather less than 6 per cent, on a turnover of £80m.
