Under the Norwich Corporation Act, 1933, the local authority is empowered to make by-laws for securing sanitary conditions for the transport of food. The council wishes to apply to the transport of meat sold retail, provisions similar to those contained in the Public Health (Meat) Regulations, made by the Minister of Health, in respect of the carriage of meat that is sold wholesale.

The Minister of Health is stated to be willing to approve the by-laws. The railways, however, wish to be excluded from the provisions, and consider that, in any case, the matter should be tackled nationally, not locally.

Firestone's Latest Tyre.

We reproduce on this page an illustration of the latest product of the Firestone Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd., Great West Road, Brentford. It is a new 32 x 6 ground-grip tyre, which has' been specially developed for light vehicles operating under conditions where traction is of prime importance; that is, where roads, as such, do not exist, or where the vehicles have to negotiate sand, wet clay, loose soil! mud or snow.

The tyre has an extra deep interlocking chevron-type tread, which is claimed not only to give positive traction, but to be self-cleaning, and thus maintains its tractive efficiency. Moreover, the rugged angles of the tread are positioned so that they are always in contact with the ground, thus preventing bumping and side-slip. This new product is built with gum-dipped high-stretch cords, which give the tyre extra strength to withstand the exceptional stresses imposed by hauling under heavy load.

The tyre should be particularly suitable for vehicles engaged on haulage and delivery work on unmade roads, quarrying, excavating, forestry service, road building and haulage on soft farm land. A GROWING TANKER FLEET.

Trinidad Leaseholds, Ltd., the distributor of Regent petrol, is again augmenting its fleet of nearly 100 Leyland road tankers, ranging from comparatively small Cub models to large sixwheeled Hippos, and a further eight Hippos, four Beaver-Sixes and an Octopus eight-wheeler will shortly be added. When the company built its new supply and service depot at Portslade-by-Sea, electric pumps with a delivering capacity of 36,000 gallons per hour were installed. The speed with which these function enables a. fleet of five road tankers to be loaded simultaneously.
