THE ‘ ' srtyER GREY" fleet ef motor coaches is run by Morecinbe Motors, Ltd., Harbour .Garages., Promenade, Morecambe, and the number of vehic\es which the company will have in service during the 1923season will be 14; only one of which is a new -coach, this being a 2i-ton Guy, which is fitted with a 24-seater bedv.
The type of vehicle which is bestesuited for meeting local requirements is the 20-seater. The company express the view that the use of small-capacity coaches, in preference to the; large vehicles, is governed by the fare which it is possible to charge, but if the public will pay the price which permits of a profit to be made on these vehicles, then, in the coarse of a few years, the larger types of coaches will be in the minority,
They point out, however, that the .tendency locallyis for the proprietors of larger vehicles to nit prices to such an eatent that it is impossible for the •-.Avner-of 'smaller vehicles to -run them at a profit. So far as rates are concerned, it is impossible to stabilize them without unanimity of action, and their experience has been that if one owner cuts the price for a certain tour, then the whole of the prices of other pre prietors have to be brought into line.
The prospects for the 1923 season in Morecambe.-are deeendent to a great extent upon the attitude which is adopted by large owners in the matter of fares. If these are cut below a satisfactory working limit, the small owner's chances of success -are practically nil.
