Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

II A new campaign group which aims to promote the image of road haulage is claiming a membership of nearly 200 following its first recruitment drive.

The founders of the Professional Drivers Association aim to establish a unified voice for the entire industry on issues such as driver shortages and low rates—spokeswoman Pat Nicholson claims that the trade associations are failing to project a positive image for haulage.

"I don't feel they have done very much to encourage new drivers into the industry with training as well as retraining the drivers who have been out of the industry for a while," she says. "They are a little bit detached from the nitty-gritty details of the problem. It's things like waiting times at national distribution centres that need to be addressed."

Nicholson adds that most ME bers were recruited last month Truckfest; further recruitment dris are planned at other shows dur the year.

Membership costs £10/year wh covers postage and administrat costs. The organisation, which is ni political, has no office or paid staff.

"We are having to do all the worl our spare time," says Nichols 'There are eight of us on the comn tee at the moment.

"We are all involved in the Indust including one person who is a disab driver and another who is involvec truck security," she adds.

Nicholson, a full-time lorry dris for Bretts Transport in Ca bridgeshire, says a website is due be launched next month.
