I The London Buses Driver of the Year competition takes place in Battersea Park on 21 July when 80 drivers will compete for the title, each having passed tests in passenger care, driving skills and the Highway Code.
The finalists will demonstrate their expertise in reversing into a restricted space, pulling to a stop between two parked cars and avoiding overhead obstructions.
Year of the bus
I Do you run or work for an efficient, innovative or successful bus company? If so, the Association of Metropolitan Authorities wants to hear about it for its Year of the Bus Good Practice awards.
The AMA is awarding prizes in six categories including information and signing, promotions, vehicle design, infrastructure and service. The contest will help the AMA compile a good practice guide which, it says, transport authorities and operators will be able to use as proof that buses can "solve many of the country's problems of congestion and pollution". Nominations must be in by 6 September.
