TAN KCON • A revised version of Focien's 2000 Series, on show at last week's Tankcon exhibition, easily meets the Milk Marketing Board's latest weight specification: equipped with a 10,500litre tank from Charles Roberts it is probably the lightest milk tanker available at 17 tonnes, claims the manufacturer.
Built on the standard 4.15mwheelbase chassis incorporating tapered frame rails at the rear, with the fuel tank capacity reduced to just 114 litres (30gal) it weighs in at 6,117kg — a full 143kg below the MMB's limit.
The show's international flavour was maintained by companies such as Feldbinder, which
exhibited a 48m3 aluminium, tipping silo tank, with an all-up weight of 6.3 tonnes, mounted on an air-suspended semi-trailer chassis complete with hoses and electric pump.
Government encouragement for long distance freight to be moved from road to rail has already increased demand for intermodal containers.
Metalair has just introduced a 9.14m (301t) pressurised box container which has been developed over the past two years in collaboration with Alcan. Manufactured from marine quality aluminium, the 48m box, with a tare weight of 3,060kg, is approved as a T container. The specification includes five 450mm loading hatches.
