Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE Channel has been calm under our recent heatwave but South Coast resorts have been deluged with waves of transport men, with Eastbourne getting the biggest share of the action. Hardly had the delegates at the Confederation of British Road Passenger Transport packed their buckets and spades after a resoundingly successful first conference, before 230 transport operators and Press from 14 cOuntries arrived to take their place.

This second invasion, which should be at its peak as you read these words, has been organised by Daimler-Benz —the third annual operators' . seminar run by the company; the first was at Timmendorf on the Baltic coast, the second at La 13aule on the French Atlantic coast.

As host country, Britain has the largest delegation (as well as two speakers— Sir Daniel Pettit of NFC and Gordon Beard of the British Transport Staff College). This is as it should be, since, as the D-B press notice reminds us, Britain is the • largest commercial vehicle market in Europe.

Second largest delegation is—to my surprise—from South Africa, with 15 . transport men.

As well as being entertained to the inevitable medieval banquet and jousting, the fortunate delegates will have the chance to see tennis stars like Virginia Wade, Chris Evert, Evonne Goolagong and Billie Jean King " warming up " for Wimbledon at a Mercedes-sponsored tournament at Eastbourne.

Despite all this. I am reliably informed that quite a lot of transport business will be discussed at the seaside.
