Sir William Batty, chairman of Ford of Britain, has been elected president of the SMMT. Sir William succeeds Sir Raymond Brookes, president of the GKN Group, who becomes deputy president. John Barber, deputy chairman and md of British Leyland, Barrie Heath, chairman of GKN, and David Plastow, group md of Rolls-Royce, are SMMT vice-presidents. Miles Breeden, joint md of Wilmot Breeden, was re-elected as treasurer for the 15th successive year. Gilbert Hunt, chairman of Chrysler UK, was re-appointed chairman of the Society's executive committee.
L. Adlard, 29, moves from marketing executive at Pickfords Removals head office to manager of Wakefield branch.
Charles F. W. Saunders, Who joined LT in 1949 and moved to BRS in 1937, has retired as group financial 'accountant for the British Road Services Group.
J. B. Midgley (J. B. Midgley and Sons, Leeds) has been elected chairman of the RHA meat and allied trades transport committee in succession to T. G. Wilson, who is no longer engaged in meat transport. Mr Midgley is a member of the Association's national council and vice-chairman of the commercial committee.
Allan Goldstone, formerly planning and development officer for North Western BRSL, has been promoted planning and development manager and takes a seat on the NWBRSL executive board.
W. J. P. Adams, who joined Girling 13 years ago as overseas project engineer and was until recently chief engineer for commercial vehicle brakes, now assumes overall responsibility for the Girling anti-skid system for cv.
G. W. Finbow becomes branch manager (designate) Chelmsford, BRS Parcels, pending the forthcoming retirement of the present manager, R. Purkiss. Mr Finbow was previously operations controller at Chelmsford.
