Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

speed limit?

RECENT coach crashes had highlighted the need for the imposition c)f a 60mph speed limit on coaches using motorways, and that 'coaches should not be permitted to use the outside 'lane, said Mr. Walter Johnson (Labour, Derby South) in the Commons last week.

Unless something was done now there would be a disaster situation on a motorway, added Mr Johnson, and he asked the Government to take urgent note of the matter.

But Mr Neil Carmichael, Under-Secretary DoE, toad him that although everyone was concerned about the recent serious accident in which a coach was concerned, he did not think everything should be based on one accident.

The inspectors were looking into the matter and everything possible would be learned from this tragic occurrence.

Many coach trips occurred every 'weekend, and more and more travellers were becoming apprehensive about the condi tion of •the structure of some of these coaches, said Mr James Dempsey (Labour, Coatbridge and Airdrie). He asked 1 Mr Carmichael whether, after studying the detail's of the recent tragedies, special observations would be made as to the roof structure of these coaches before they were licensed to convey pasengers on tours.

Mr Carmichael undertook to draw the attention of the Transport Minister to the point about roof structures.
