Because this may be the last year that sonic municipalities will have autonomous control of their own bus fleets, the secretary of Rochdale's Transiclub wrote to all the transport departments affected by the SELNEC and Merseyside PTAs inviting them to take part in the club's third annual rally. The event, held last Sunday, attracted official entries from Blackburn, Bolton, Bury, Halifax, Manchester, Morecambe and Heysham, Oldham, Rochdale, Southport, Stockport and Wallasey. Quite a turn out.
There were 41 vehicles in the parade, of which no fewer than 30 were p.s.v.—the rest being commercials, emergency service units and ears. The oldest was a restored 1929 Leyland Titan originally operated by Keighley West Yorkshire; in contrast there were several 1969 models.
Another transport milestone, I suppose you could say.
