• Altrincham Coachways Ltd. was granted its application for 40 additional excursions less three taken out to meet an objection by Jacksons of Altrincham Ltd. The application included 15 new destinations and was heard by the North Western Traffic Commissioners in Manchester on Wednesday.
Mr. J. A. Backhouse, on behalf of the applicant company, said the first part of the application was to put destinations which appeared on one licence on to another so that a common schedule could be achieved. The second part of the application was to make it possible for the company to provide some variety of service. Mr. A. Roberts, assistant traffic manager for Altrincham Coachways, said it was not the intention of his company to drive Jacksons out of business. In his opinion bookings were not increasing whereas the duration of the tours was. The present application would meet this change.
Six witnesses were called by Altrincham Coachways in support of its application. They all said that they had been travelling with the company for about 20 years and valued the service. The chairman of the Commissioners, Mr. C. R. Hodgson, granting the application, said those six loyal clients must be tired with the same destinations and deserved a change.
