• Transfleet and Chart are merging their contract distribution businesses, which have joint sales of more than 215 million.
The combined business will become fully operational from 1 October, trading as Chart Distribution Services. It will be headed by George Longstaffe and managed from the Chart Distribution base at Redditch, Worcs.
Transfleet, with its fleet of over 6,500 vehicles, and Chart, with more than 2,000 vehicles, will continue to operate their contract hire and rental businesses separely. The two companies are owned jointly by Lex Service and Lombard North Central respectively. Transfleet will continue to manage the Marks and Spencer contract in the West Country and London because of its long term requirements and its integration with contract hire activities. Transfleet recently spent 212 million on new truck rental vehicles which are to go into operation at its 20 depots nationwide: "We will be able to pursue our principal activities of contract hire and truck rental," says Transfleet managing director Terry Robinson.
