• The Bus and Coach Council is researching the effects of the Education Reform Act on coach operators carrying school parties. The Act, which came into force in April, prevents schools from asking for contributions from parents towards the cost of school trips.
The BCC is studying the effects of this on various venues, as well as coach operators. Although results will not be available until the end of the coaching season in the late autumn, early indications are that zoos and similar attractions have suffered a 20% drop in school parties.
The study will also cover the interpretation of the Act by various county authorities, says the BCC.
