Magazine distributors are ming to road transport in a to beat the chaos caused by 'eldy strike action on British iL Comag, one of the UK's ;gest distributors, switched titles including a new nch, to road last week and it is "entirely happy" with service it received. Distribution manager DomiByrne would not comment whether the switch is a manent one, but does say would make things very diflit to move back to BR. Our ..;e good relationship with the [ways is turning sour". Zomag used Enfield-based ne Sensitive Deliveries to lye three of their titles, inding the newly launched Golf Illustrated Weekly.

Its managing director Brian Martin said that on the last allout strike day Time Sensitive Deliveries handled around 110 tonnes of time-sensitive material. "This is three times what we would normally carry," says Martin.

The firm handles around 250 titles a month but Martin points out that over the strike period it has picked up between 30 and 40 weekly titles as well. "We don't believe we will be asked to continue carrying everything we are doing now but we don't believe everything will go back to rail," he says.

A spokesman for TNT Newsfast says it has also picked up an extra 20-25 titles over the last three to four weeks, while NFC subsidiary, Excel Logistics Newsflow, says that it is "in discussion" with people interested in making the switch from rail to road.

Newsflow has just reached an agreement to distribute the up-market Wales on Sunday newspaper to the London area, moving between 6-8,000 copies of the paper overnight from printers in Cardiff direct to London wholesalers.
