Mitsubishi is launching a vision system, aimed primarily for use as a reversing aid on trucks and buses.
The system, known as CVision, consists of a compact, externally-mounted camera, coupled to a small six-inch tv screen sited in the cab.
The weatherproof camera has a wide angle of view, and, when mounted high on the rear of a vehicle, the TV picks up objects behind it up to a distance of over ten metres (a distance scale is given on the screen). The camera is sensitive to very low light levels.
Cost of the system is around 2800, depending on quality, with fitting extra (typically 2100-200). It is being targeted at both truck and bus operators.
Mitsubishi has given marketing rights to Vision Techniques of Blackburn.
