Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Scania (Great Britain) is stepping up its attack on the UK tipper market with a highpowered eight-wheeler fitted with the latest 235KW (320hp) 11-litre tractive unit engine announced earlier this month (CM 29 June-5 July).

The 235KW 8x4 chassis will have the same size cab as the current P93ML 280/driven by the 202KW (275hp) 8.5-litre Scania engine. Its kerbweight, however, is understood to be some 600kg lighter than the P93ML chassis, due to the use of a new frame which does not require flitching.

Few details are known about the new eight-legger, except that it has parabolic springs all round, a two-spring rear bogie and different front axles to the existing P93 chassis.

The first chassis is being prepared for Type Approval, and will shortly be bodied by Wilcox.

The launch date for the 235KW Scania 8x4 has not been announced — although a likely time could be around the Scottish Motor Show in November. Scalia already offers more powerful eightleggers on the continent.

The high-powered 8x4 chassis, which could be badged as the P113 8x4, would give Scania (Great Britain) a wider product spread in the eightwheeler market, allowing it to compete against the Volvo Fl 10-320 8x4, as well as the latest Iveco Ford 300.32 and the more-powerful Foden eight-leggers. Its arrival would certainly answer previous criticisms from operators of the Scania 8 x4 range on power and kerbweight
