of Andover by Houghton Parkhouse Coachwork uses a drawbridge-type front bulkhead for through-loading into the rigid body.
The vehicle combination, drawn by one of the first Leyland Daf FAR 95-350 6 x 2 prime movers, is bodied to Ministry of Agriculture standards and will be used to transport animals in the UK and abroad.
The front 7.31m and the 7.16m rear P-Line bodies are both steel framed with aluminium sides and floors. An electro-hydraulically raising floor lifts to 1.7m to accommodate cattle, with a 1.02m space above it for smaller beasts. The lifting floor has safety locks; power packs are located outside the bulkheads.
Milnethorpe, Cumbriabased HPC, which specialises in livestock carriers from 7.5tonne rigids to 12.2m semitrailers, has benefited from the closure earlier this year of nearby Kendal Coachworks. It is building three bodies a week, has a full order book through to October and, with its eye on 1992, aims to expand in the near future.
