• Tesco Stores' regional distribution fleet is about to t joined by 160 York Thermostar refrigerated semi trailers.

The final 10 triplecompartment reefers are nearing completion. They are fitted with Petter's latest Multipack underfloor system which uses three independent electricallydriven freezer units mounted on the opposite (near) side to the diesel generating set. The are capable of cooling or heating the interior.

Each body compartment uses its own underfloor condensor section and roofmounted internal evaporator Duplicated internal and external controls allow the operator to programme the refrigeration mode, and York's new sliding bulkheads allow compartment sizes to bi adjusted.

The bulkheads are gasstrut-assisted and can be stowed in the roof when not required.

The insulated partitions have been specially develope. for the Tesco contract, which is estimated to be worth in excess of £6.0 million. Leveroperated positive sealing is designed to prevent heat transfer.

The Thermostar bodies have pre-coated steel outer panels with one-piece GRP internal facings; the rear end recessed to accommodate the insulated roller shutter. All o the semis run on Tecair axles and air suspension.

Most of the Thermostars 12.2m units with lifting front axles and auto-drop devices. The consignment also include 16 10m, and 108m tandemaxle units.

These have tandem TEC Tecair running gear. All offei a clear 2.0m interior loading height.
