THFIELD'S prototype ss curtainsider is unsing evaluation trials Scottish and Newcastle Breweries alongside a preproduction York Freepost (CM April 27) postless model. The postless bodywork (see picture) uses two 2 Omm (0.Sin) diameter steel rods running through reinforced cant rails to support the roof section which has a 130mm (5.1in) positive camber.

Additional bracing. has also been added to the front and rear bulkheads, although the roof crossmembers are standard.

When the conventional side curtains are tensioned, the roof camber is reduced to around 55mm (2.2in). the tension rods are cushioned within the cant rails by rubber inserts.

The trailer chassis is a Dyson Supertight tandem axle unit equiped with SAF air suspension. Front and rear bulkheads have been tapered for Scottish amid • Newcastle's trunking operations.
