THE ROAD Haulage Association has paid tribute to E. B. R. Smith when he stepped down after five years' service as chairman of the RHA Labour Relations Committee.
At a presentation in London this week Ted Smith was thanked by his colleagues on the old committee and RHA officials. He had been on the committee since 1968 and chairman since 1974.
Mr Smith is also a past RHA Eastern area chairman and was the first winner of the RHA's essay competition back in 1969 with his paper 'Towards a better road haulage industry'.
The structure of the RHA Labour Relations Committee was recently changed and it was renamed the Industrial Relations Committee. It is now made up of the chairmen of the area negotiating committees, who are responsible for dayto-day negotiations.
