THE biggest farewell gathering ever known at Fodens, Ltd., took place last Friday to mark the retirement of Mr. Arthur Thompson, personnel and publicity manager, who had served the company for 54 years.
At the farewell ceremony Mr. J. E. Foden and Mr. E. Twemlow. joint managing directors, made a series of presentations. From the staff and foremen came a diamond ring. From Fodens a gold wristwatch and a large framed colour portrait of Mr. Thompson. from the outside sales staff a cheque, from the shop stewards some slippers, and from the chargehands two travelling rugs. Over many years one of Mr. Thompson's special concerns has been the progress and the welfare of students from overseas. Their appreciation took practical forms; a silver tray was presented by Mr. A. Nyarko, of the Consolidated African Selection Trust of Ghana, who worked at Fodens for two years under the training scheme and is now engaged in London. Mr. A. Chakrabarti, of Calcutta, a former independent worker at Fodens, presented gold cufflinks and tie pin.
A special bouquet was presented to Mrs. Thompson, who for many years was the company's canteen manageress
