Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE Board of Trade returns for June, 1934, show that the value of imports of commercial vehicles, cars, chassis and accessories was £328,169, as contrasted with £213,901 for June, 1933, and £207,025 for June, 1932. The increase was mainly due to a big rise in imports from America. The value of imports for the first six months of the year was £1,683,090, tEe comparable return for 1933 being £1,233,092 and for the same period of 1932 £1,654,165.

The figures relating to the export of complete commercial vehicles show that 169 machines were exported in June of this year, their value being £52,977, the number being well below the figure (229) for June, 1933, although the value shows an increase from £51,102. In the case of commercial chassis, there was a useful increase in the exports, this year's figure being 639 for the month, as against 539 a year earlier and 392 in June, 1932. These figures, considered in relation to the value of the exports—£108,540 for June, 1934, £69,010 for June, 1933, and £75,515 for June, 1932—are of interest as indicating the trend in the demand for particular types of vehicle. For the six months ended June, 4,554 commercial chassis were exported, of a value of £647,995. Australia still continues to take a good share of British commercial-vehicle products, the number of vehicles exported to that country in June, 1934, being 270, as compared with 98 a year earlier.
