TWO UK transport firms are in the latest list of Europe's fasting growing businesses. ECM (Vehicle Delivery Service) was placed 229 and Cranleigh Freight Services came 294 in the 2004 list of top European entrepreneurs.

The 'Europe 's 500' list is endorsed by global businesses such as Microsoft and is based on sustained employment and sales growth.

Carlisle-based ECM earned a place on the list after expanding its workforce from 261 to 385 between 2000 and 2003.

Becky Young, sales and market ing manager for Cranleigh, says its 280-strong workforce has grown by more than 100 over the past four years: "We grew up as a European road haulage company and then went into distribution through the Pall-Ex network. We've been doing home delivery for five years and went nationwide 18 months ago." She adds that Cranleigh's reputation for reliability "comes from having good drivers who show a lot of commitment to the company and our customers."

Europe's 500 includes 26 companies from transport and logistics.
