The Foden Alpha tipper may be the last of its breed, but it's no pea-brained dinosaur ready for extinction. The universal fitting of sheeting systems has made the Holy Grail of a 21-tonne payload harder to achieve, but the Foden gives you more chance of making it than most.
If you operate at higher speeds, the long diff ratio fitted here will give you excellent motorway fuel figures, but if you spend more time out in the sticks, the optional 4.1:1 will probably enhance your A-road returns.
The numbers should keep the fleet owner satisfied: but not at the expense of driver appeal. Time may have caused Daf's cab to slip down the state-of-theart rankings slightly, but there's hardly a driver in the land whose lip would quiver at being given the keys to the Foden.
It might be made in a traditional mould, but as long as the engine suppliers keep their products available, and there are weight conscious operators providing a market, there seems no reason to break it.
