• Strathclyde Police say road users' lives could be at risk if 1,000 Scots LGV drivers go ahead with a go-slow threat to drive at 25mph on motorways.
The drivers, representing 51 haulage, own-account and owner-operators, are threatening to take "French farmer style" action to protest at
high taxation levels on the industry (CM 13-20 January).
Following a meeting on 12 January, the hauliers, who are mainly from central Scotland, have decided to call themselves the Truck Operator's Action Group.
Chief Superintendent William McDougall admits that slow driving in itself is not illegal, but says the action will mean car drivers have to compete for reduced motorway space. This has serious safety implications, he warns.
The date of the threatened action will be decided at a meeting on 16 February in Bathgate, central Scotland.
