• Drivers will have the choice of four restaurants, a cinema and budget hotel accommodation when a new motorway service area opens in Cheshire in June. The Poplar 2000 services occupy a 32-acre site at the M6/M56 intersection near Lymm and will provide CCTV surveillance for up to 300 LGVs in phase one plus another 180 in phase two. Showers, conference and social facilities are planned. When complete the services will be capable of handling more than 1.3m vehicles a year. Further north, RoadChef is opening its eleventh service area at the Bowburn interchange on the Al(M) in County Durham in late summer. Included will be a main building with self-service restaurant, fast-food unit, a shop and a 40-bed hotel. The forecourts will be operated by Fina.
