Road scheme rejected
A Om road improvement scheme at Bridge Foot, Warrington, which would have involved a second crossing over the River Mersey, has been turned down by the Secretary of State for the Environment after a public inquiry in 1976.
The restructuring of Bridge Foot, regarded as a vital planning objective, had been on the stocks for 15 years and had been given third place in Cheshire's transport programme. It was aimed at alleviating chronic traffic congestion and improving environmental conditions in the town centre.
