Nylon chain
DROVIDING an alternative to the tradir tional metal chain, which cannot be completely protected from rust and corrosion even when heavily greased, is a nylon chain called Tuff-Link, which is moulded already interlinked. The link design, with thicker ends and a central support for added strength, makes the most of its method of manufacture by the injection moulding process. TuffLink requires no maintenance, is used on tailboards and is useful as a tow rope for light vehicles.
Made by: Tuff-Link Co., Ramsey Mill, Chadderton, Oldham, Lancs.
Composite mudguard
TN a bid to beat mudguard damage on commercial vehicles, Skandia Engineering Ltd. has—after many months of testing —introduced a composite rubber and steel guard. The new guard combines the strength of steel on its inner three-fifths with the damage resistance of contour-moulded rubber on the rest of its width. A special beading between the two materials maintains strength and perfect shape in use. The guards are easy to fit and keep their appearance indefinitely. They are obtainable in sizes from 7.50-20 to 11.00-20.
Made by: Skandia Engineering Ltd., Martlesham Aerodrome, Suffolk.
Price: From £11 I Is. to £15 15s. per pair.
Improved Gasfluxer
WELDCRAFT Ltd., a member of the G. D. Peters Group, is now marketing a greatly improved version of its Gasfluxer unit for use in all types of bronze welding and brazing work. These units can reduce non-fusion welding time by as much as 40 per cent, and still give a superior finish, claims the maker.
The improved Weldcraft Gasfluxer is fitted with a needle-type valve instead of the diaphragm valve used previously. One important factor is that the needle can be exchanged in a matter of minutes.
Designed to give uniform fluxing, the weldcraft Gasfluxer is fitted between the gas supply and the blowpipe. Acetylene passes through the unit, picking the flux in the form of a vapour and carrying it to the blowpipe flame. The work is thus fluxed automatically, enabling the operator to concentrate solely on the welding. There is no flux deposit which means that painting of the welded sections needs no preparation.
Gasfluxer units hold one gallon of gasflux sufficient to process 3,500 to 4,000 cu. ft. of acetylene; they are suitable for use when working with brass, copper, mild steel or copper alloys of relatively low zinc content, galvanized iron and many other metals. Made by: Weldcraft, Ltd., Windsor Works, Slough, Bucks.
Sheet-rack fascia
ACOMBINED sheet-rack and illuminated fascia for Dodge 500 series, and Commer La6 cabs, has been added to the Hatcher range. Made from weather-resistant reinforced plastic with a perspex fascia panel, the sheet-rack can be fixed in minutes by unskilled labour. Lighting is by four 15watt festoon bulbs and an illuminated cab switch is supplied.
Made by Hatcher (Framlingham) Ltd., B adingham Road, Framlingham.
Price: £26 complete.
Automatic lubrication
Av automatic chassis lubrication system has been introduced by Higgs Electrical Engineers, Glasgow, to provide instant lubrication on all types of commercial vehicles. High viscosity 140 SAE is supplied at high pressure to each oiling point on the vehicle and is precisely metered to each bearing to maintain a cushion of oil between bearing surfaces. To protect the pumps should the main pressure lines be inadvertently damaged, the system is fitted with control and safety cut-out devices, together with a signal warning to the driver that lubrication is being carried out.
Two methods of initiating the system are available. For timed lubrication a timing device initiates a high-pressure injection from a rotary pump at predetermined intervals while the vehicle is running.
For "manumatic" lubrication, the system is operated by the driver.

Plocket boxes
TO operate 12-volt and 24-volt trailers with tractive units fitted with 24-volt systems is the purpose of the Plocket box introduced by Chassis Developments Ltd. Although principally designed for fifth wheel operation, the Placket Box can be adapted for vehicles fitted with automatic coupling.
There are two types of boxes, 12, and 12/24. They are intended for operation with a seven-pin socket, connected to the box with a seven-core coiled or straight cable. Both can be connected to the Scammell automatic coupling, providing that five connections are available on both tractive unit and trailer if a type 12 box is fitted, and six connections for type 12/24, and the trailer should be correspondingly fitted with a mating flanged plug. Correct installation should be as near as possible to the centre line to allow for adequate cable length on both leftand right-hand maximum steering locks.
The kit for each box includes full instructions and drawings for fitting.
Made by Chassis Developments Ltd., Bridge Works, Skimpot Road, Dunstable, Bedfordshire.
Price: Type 12 £18 2s, Type 12/24 £19 8s retail.
