SIXTY-SEVEN lorry drivers on an earthmoving project at the new motorway by-pass at Uddingston, Lanarkshire, were sacked by their firm last week after going on strike.
The drivers, employed by Dick Hampton Ltd., stopped work after two workmates—one of them a union branch secretary—were dismissed following a dispute about what time they should finish loading.
District organizer for the TGWU Mr. Joseph Murphy said in Glasgow: "I am arranging a meeting with the management. The men's action appears to be justified."
