A N Australian concern is to intro.C1 duce a coach service between Australia and Britain next month. The inclusive single fare is £788. The first coach will leave Melbourne on February 29 and arrive in London on June 6.

Volkswagen MiCrobuses will = be used, but, in the interests of comfort, only six of the eight seats will be occupied. So far, two vehicles have been booked for the inaugural service.

The coaches will travel from Melbourne to Bombay by sea. From Bombay they will cover about 200 miles a day through India, the Middle Ea.,t and across Europe to Ostend, where they will again embark by ship for Dover.

may be considered by Halifax Joint Omnibus Committee. Since the closing of a local rail service, there has been a demand for alternative bus facilities, as Ovenden people who wish to travel to Bradford first have to go into Halifax. in the wrong direction, to catch a Bradford bus.

"SENSE AND SAFETY"

SHOWING how thousands of accidents are caused each year by the same mistakes, " Sense and Safety " has been published by the Stationery Office at 6d. The booklet describes and illustrates the chief causes of accidents among drivers and other road users.

Chief points for drivers are that 8,561 accidents occurred in 1954 through careless crossing of roadjunctions, 8,403 through wining right Withotit due care, and 6.174 through Misjudging clearance, distance or speed.

ENGINE EVERY 35 SECONDS •

ANEW assembly line for the production of commercial-vehicle engines has been completed by the International Harvester Co., Indianapolis-, Indiana. An engine can be made every 35 seconds. The factory, which has a floor space of nearly 22 acres, is stated to beche largest of its kind in the world. Over 2in. engines have been produced there.
