I NCREASES in wages for certain milk

transport workers have been negotiated by the Transport and General Workers' Union. The agreement between the Union and the Milk Marketing Board has been adjusted to raise drivers' wages by 4s. a week, to operate retrospectively from September 29, 1949.

Increases have also been granted retrospectively from September 25. 1449, to employees of Co-operative Wholesale Society .dairies in Areas A and B. Male adult workers La these areas now receive another 3s. a .week, and female adult workers an extra 2s. a week in Area A and Is. 6d. in Area B.

Proposals setting out wages for transport workers in the retail food trade have been submitted to the industry. It is proposed that drivers of 21 years of age or over operating motor vehicles of I ton or less should receive the terminal male shop assistants' rate of £5 4s. in London, £5 in provincial A areas and £4 14s. in provincial B areas, whichever is the lower.

Drivers, irrespective of age, 011-2-ton vehicles should receive £5 8S.in London. £5 4s. in A areas and £4 18s. in

B areas. Wages for the drivers of 2-5-tort vehicles would be £5 .12s., i5 8s. and £.5 2s. respectively, and those for drivers of vehicles of more than 5 tons, £.5 16s., £5 12s. and £5 8s. respectively.

The proposed scale also includes provision for workers under the age of 21.
