Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Chris Wright is MD of Commercial Vehicle Auctions. CVA holds sales at Doncaster on two Wednesdays each month with a throughput of 160 to 200 trucks, 80-150 trailers and various items of plant. Wright also conducts sales around the country at customers premises.

Ile says: The Daily dates back over ten years but Neu only got Into the 2.8-3.5-tonne volume panel van market three years ago and Is taking time to become established. The market over 3.5 tonnes is relatively much smaller and, while we may see some examples up to 5.0 tonnes, the 6.5tonner is still much too new for the auction houses.

0 a the 6.5-to nner tells us that acceleration is steady but once up to speed, the engine holds on well. In variable traffic conditions, journey times can be assisted greatly by prolific use of the gears to keep the turbo spinning.

The hydraulic brakes work extremely well but, due to its heavy front-end unsprung weight, the City truck reacts badly to rough road conditions. Otherwise, the firm suspension and pin-sharp rack-and-pinion steering makes for excellent handling. The unsprung cab is mounted directly onto the chassis but a mechanical suspension seat is fitted to improve ride comfort.

There is little direct competition for

the 6.5-tonne Daily. Despite protestations to the contrary, we believe that an updated

Sprinter would be stretched to take the extra half-tonne, but for now only Renault with the Mastcott and Mercedes-Benz with the Vario produce big van variants of the same overall weight. Iveco's 65C must have something the others can't provide—in its first year it sold 490 units and last year, sales rose to 85o units in various guises.
