• Many of the 18 drivers who were lured to carry emergency relief goods to Albania last month are being criticised by the organisers of the charity for being inexperienced and beligerent. Eleven of the 18 are members of Unit 91, the co-operative for ownerdrivers, The drivers, who returned last week, are being paid £1,850 apiece for the three-week trip across mountainous Albania, with a reduction on the ferry and mainly free transit taxes. Independent Television News ran a report showing that some supplies were emptied in the street, although most of the goods were delivered safely to warehouses.
The organiser, Taskforce Albania, says that only two of the drivers had snow chains and that they complained about delays. Unit 91's Mike Pickering says the trip was badly organised.
