ricy roads may soon become a haven for picnicking mice attracted by the lure of cheese waste, which the Danish have discovered to be more effective than salt. The sultry brine left over from cheese making does not blow away, unlike 80% of the salt, instead the sticky mixture clings to the surface, keeping it ice free. The Department of Transport is looking into the possibility of using it in the UK. If it wants a ready supply of cheese waste the Hawk recommends it looks no further than the nearest British Rail buffet.
