• Daf plans to put a natural gas engine on the market at the end of this year. It has 11.6-litre horizontal engines on trial in the Netherlands with Centraal, Nederland, Rotterdam-based RET, Groningen-based GVB and HTM in the Hague.
The 125kW (168hp) engine is well within the EC 9NOx emission standards with an emission level of 1.6-3g/kWh. But Daf still has to find a solution to the problem of the extra weight created by the need for 10 heavy steel natural gas cylinders in the bus.
Operators in Holland, Scandinavia and the Far East have all expressed interest.
