• Haulier Don Pickering has had conditions imposed on the parking of its reefer trucks, following representations from a neighbour.
The Swepstone, Leics-based company had applied to Eastern Deputy LA Humphrey Lewis for the renewal of its three-vehicle restricted licence.
Thomas Gregory, a local resident, complained about long periods of noise when vehicles were parked close to his house with their refrigeration equipment connected to the mains electricity supply.
Readings taken by the local council showed that the background noise level of 32dI3(A) increased to 52dB(A) when the vehicles' refrigeration equipment was working.
Director Christopher Pickering said the company sold ready cooked poultry and had been at its current base since 1977. Electricity had been installed behind a barn like building on the site and one vehicle was now parked there to reduce the noise. He promised that the others would not park next to Gregory's house. Acoustic screens had been put round the fans and the noise level had been reduced from 74dB(A).
Renewing the licence, the DLA imposed conditions on where Pickering trucks had to be parked with their reefer units running.
