Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NORDE Suspensions has offered to contribute to a study by the Department of Transport to attempt to quantify the benefits offered by rubber or air suspensions.

Virtually all the discussion so far on the proposed increased vehicle weights has concentrated on static axle loads. There would seem to be a woeful lack of research information on the effect of various types of suspension on dynamic axle loads.

Two often-stated advantages of rubber or air suspension compared with leaf spring are reduced maintenance and lower drive-by noise levels.

Transport Secretary David Howell is shown here during a visit to Norde at Northampton. With him from left to right are Bill Johnson, marketing director Norde; Peter Fry, Conservative MP for Wellingborough; and James Stanford, chairman, Norde.
