Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Volunteer Reserve as a driver. This will involve driving 10-ton carrying-capacity heavy vehicles. I am 22 years of age and hold a driving licence for cars only—not a group 1 licence. Could you tell me how the h.g.v. driving licence will affect me, or are drivers of military vehicles exempt from h.g.v. drivers' licence regulations?

ADrivers of military goods carrying vehicles,

whether civilians or members of HM Forces, are not exempt from the requirements of the h.g.v. drivers licence regulations. The only exemption of this nature applies to drivers of wheeled armoured vehicles.

In order for you to drive the vehicles mentioned you will need to obtain a provisional h.g.v. drivers' licence to gain experience, while accompanied, and then take the h.g.v. driving test. You will also need to obtain a normal group 1 driving licence before you can hold an h.g.v. driving licence Although holders of current group 1 driving licences can drive h.g.v. of any class without an h.g.v. driver's licence until the expiry of their current normal licence, you cannot do so because on the appointed day (February 2) you did not hold a licence granted under Part II of the RTA 1960 authorizing you to drive a heavy goods vehicle of that class (Road Traffic Act Schedule 153 la).
