Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

with scores highlighted for easy reference, blue for the highest performance each area, and red for the lowest. nfortunately for one maker, the extreme ght column looks like a river of blood. Sorry, anault fans, but although the Premium is :ill capable of earning its keep, in this )mpany it proves just how rapidly truck 2velopment is moving.

If fourth place was easily settled, the fight 1r top spot ended in a three-way photo iish. With just five points separating them, could justifiably be said that all three were inners. In a complete turn-around of our 'St impressions, the top three ended in !verse alphabetical order, with the Mere iking top spot from MAN by a single point, id Daf trailing into third, just four points 'rift. It would be easy to end with a whole ift of "if onlys', but the points table tells le story. As always, your own operating -iorities may tell you a different one. In irticular, if outright fuel economy otivates you, the MAN, and to a slightly lesser extent the Daf, may well be your choice if driveability is what you want.

One thing is beyond question, though; the old cliche about no-one making bad trucks anymore has never been as true as it is today.

How the test was done

This year's test procedure basically followed the previous format. Two laps of a circular route in central Germany amounted to 833 miles (1,340km), with every type of road from flat autobahns to some seriously hilly national road sections. The only change to the last few 1,000 Point Tests was splitting each lap into four rather than six segments, to allow each of the four trucks to do a similar mileage with each trailer.
