THE National Freight Company anticipated much of the PrmitagE Inquiry's findings, but is concerned at the proposed £800 in rease in vehicle excise duty and "does not agree with the track costs argument".
It also does not see eye to eye with the report's recommendation that the balance of tax should be shifted away from lighter vehicles.
Like the CBI, NEC welcomes the extra 0.5m on tractive units and the proposals for new by-passes. New safety features are also welcomed, though NEC says that incompatability with Europe could pose severe problems.
