Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BUS SERVICES operated by Crosville Motor Services in the Wirral, in Cheshire, were at a standstill earlier this week as the three-week-old inter-union dispute between the members of the TGWU and AEWU continued.

The dispute is over what union non-platform staff should belong to, especially in Cases of inter-department transfers.

Because of the AEWU members' stoppage, all Crosville bus services operating out of depots at Birkenhead, Heswall and West Kirby were cancelled and 150 vehicles taken off the road on Sunday; 300 TGWU drivers and conductors employed in the area were laid off. Up to then they had been reporting for work but, because of the AEWU strike, had been unable to take vehicles out.

A spokesman for the AEWU told CM on Tuesday that national officials of both unions had been asked to intervene in an attempt to resolve the dispute.
