Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Mr. J. A. Lock, director of Garnham's Garage Ltd., Woodbridge, Suffolk, apparently considers my statement (CM November 1) that the largest vehicles can be cleaned in 25 minutes for £1 to be misleading, but I must stress that this refers to vehicles cleaned regularly. He will agree that this is desirable with proper servicing. It would appear that the vehicles he is presently cleaning have been neglected, The £1 covers labour and materials cost only; overheads depend on the type of plant and surfactant used as well as premises etc.

We have researched into vehicle cleaning problems for over two years. It is a roost important aspect of vehicle servicing as is being increasingly recognized. Some operators have purchased expensive equipment and built sophisticated wash bays without looking at the problem in depth. Commercial vehicle cleaning has been considered a routine chore. A standard of cleanliness must be determined, and proper equipment and washing agents provided for the job, but most important of all, vehicle cleaners must be properly selected and well trained. The job must not be considered unattractive and reserved for second class citizens.

A. MORRIS.
