the first sign of snow is among points suggested to the Ministry of Transport by the Traders Road Transport Association for successfully coping with wintry conditions on the roads. In a letter to the Ministry welcoming the programme for increased expenditure on snow clearance, the Association suggests there should be close co-operation between adjaccnt authorities, particularly county and borough councils, at boundary points: Road alterations or special fencing are among the Precautions which, says the T.R.T.A., could be taken at spots especially vulnerable to blockage through drifting. The Association is also contacting highway authorities to check on snow-plan improvements.

Amey Expands: The Amey Group Ltd. has purchased the issued share capital of Percy and•Son (Meonstoke) Ltd. which carries on the business of storage and distribution, for £15,733, and that of Garfield (Contractors) Ltd., haulage contractors, for £9,500.

Scottish L.D.O.Y:: Final arrangements for next year's L.D.O.Y. contest in Scotland are expected to be made at a.meeting of the full organizing committee on February 4. At an executive committee meeting last week in Edinburgh it was confirmed that the competition will probably be held On June 6 or 7, but the venue is not yet decided, New Roll-on/Roll-off Ferry : It is understood that a new commercial vehicle ferry service will be provided between Felixstowe and Rotterdam following the reported agreement between the Atlantic Steam Navigation Co. and the Felixstowe Dock and Railway Co., the latter to construct the dock facilities and the A.S.N. to operate the ferry service.
