A VISIT to Northern Command head quarters by Mr. W. J. Lowe, secretary of the Yorkshire Area of A.R.O., to make representations concerning the Command's rates of payment for Army hire of vehicles, was soon followed by remedial action by the military. The Northern Command intimated that it has been decided to standardize the following hiring rates:— Over 3 tons and up to and including 4 tons, El 2s. 6d. per day; over 4 tons and up to and including 5 tons, Li 5s. per day. This basis of payment, according to carrying capacity, aims at the removal of certain anomalies which arose through payment being made according to unladen weight, whereby some lighter vahicles were put into the Rl-per-day hire category, although having a carrying capacity as great as vehicles which were on a higher rate. The new scale is retrospective to October 25.
