Super depot in Kent for 3663

FOOD DISTRIBUTION specialist 3663 First for Foodservice is consolidating its Kent operations at a new £17.6m "super depot".

A phased migration to the new 13-acre Paddock Wood facility, which is near Ton bridge, from three other 3663 sites one at Edenbridge, and two in Sevenoaks will be ongoing until October.

At full capacity, the facility will house 110 vehicles and have 350 employees. It has 120,000ft2 of multi-temperature warehousing space, and features 17 loading bays, 14 of which are temperature-controlled.

The company built the depot on the site of the former Whirlpool domestic appliances warehouse, which burned down four years ago. Materials were reclaimed and reused in the construction of the centre, which has solar panels in the roof. Rainwater is being recycled for vehicle washing and toilet flushing. There is also a waste recovery area, where cardboard and polythene packaging can be collected and palletised.

3663 chief executive Fred Barnes says: "Solar panels in the warehouse roof provide electrical power for the offices and preheat water, while natural light in the warehouse reduces power consumption and makes for a more pleasant working environment."
