• Go-Truck, the truck sales and rental firm set up by former Intertrail boss John Goodreid, wants five transport firms to lease premises at its new site in Four Ashes, Staffs. It made £96,000 profit in its first six months of trading.
Bids close
• Applications for the post of Scottish Licensing Authority closed last Friday (14 August). Officials at the Scottish Traffic Area hope a new LA will be in place soon after current LA Keith Waterworth moves to his new position on 1 October.
Tax change
• Sweden's mileage tax on goods vehicles will be abolished from 1 July 1993 — but diesel tax will be raised to compensate.
M40 relief
• Relief is on hand for M40 users — 24-hour emergency toilets are now open north of Oxford. They are next to the A43 north of Ardley and are signposted at junction 10. A permanent service station is due to open in 1994.
Hot reefer
• Vandals who turned up the heating of Northern Ireland-based owner-driver Michael McQuillan's reefer to 25°C, caused an estimated £75,000 worth of damage to its load of frozen food and ice cream.
French threat
• Rumours of more strike action by French truck drivers in September are intensifying. A driver from British International in Southampton was stopped by French truckers who told him that if British drivers were on the road after 1 September they risked being attacked. The company has asked the RHA to investigate.
Dee bid
• John Dee's latest application for an operator's licence is to be heard by the North-Eastern Licensing Authority on 2 September.
